The Making of Millers Corner
Triunfo-Lobo Corner Beautification Project
The beautification project for the corner property at Triunfo Canyon and Lobo Canyon Roads serves three purposes.
The first is to remove an unattractive nuisance from the community. This corner is regularly used to park unwanted or unused vehicles, often for weeks at a time, with concomitant dumping from these same vehicles creating visual blight. Simultaneously, this property is used as a school bus stop for the local children. The vehicles and unknown refuse constitute a hazard for our canyon students. At times, this lot is used as a short-cut by drivers wishing to avoid the corner, which places the children at additional risk.
The second purposewhich is really the "transformation" solution to the firstis to create a better-looking area where the children can safely wait for either the school bus or for their parents to pick them up after returning from school, where they are not in the road nor exposed to vehicular traffic. By limiting the vehicle access to a single lane through the length of the property, it eliminates the possibility of vehicles being left for long periods of time while still providing access to the school bus for children to enter or exit the bus at a location well removed from the road.
Lastly, an improved landscape will be enjoyed by all recreationalists who frequent the canyon to hike, jog, and ride, both bicycles and horses. Lobo Canyon Road is an almost flat 2-mile road that is a favorite of many people seeking exercise in a natural setting. The bench can also serve as a gathering spot before and after excursions. This corner, landscaped with natives and a bench, will provide a pleasant resting place for all.
